History

Our observatory was built at the beginning of XX-th century at the roof of the Faculty of Physics. Refracting telescope produced by an English firm Cooke&Sons had been installed on the top. Recently the firm exists under the name of Cooke Optics Ltd. The telescope was made shortly before 1886. During the Second World War there was a fire in the observatory, hopefully the telescope was not damaged as it had been unmounted for the wartime. After the war the observatory was used by the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography. In 1968 due to light pollution, observatory was moved to Józefosław (read Joozefoslav). Since the breakdown of Faulty of Physics and Applied Mathematics in 1999 the observatory has been managed by Faculty of Physics. As no observations have been made since 1968 the telescope and the dome needed restoration. On July of 2004 a small group of undergraduates Piotr (Peter) Berdychowski, Łukasz (Lucas) Drożdż, Rafał Cieślak, Filip (Philip) Sala decided to renew the observatory. Due to the efforts of the Students Science Association, in 2005 the dome's mechanical system has been fixed. The first observation has been made on September 2006.

Refracting telescope

In our observatory we use 6,1" (15cm) Kepler's refracting telescope with a focal length of 2850mm. The telescope is installed on the parallactic mount.
